If I report a scam to Chainabuse, will I get my money back?
Chainabuse does not file reports with law enforcement on behalf of users; the purpose of filing a report is primarily to alert others to the scam. However, filing a report on Chainabuse may help surface multiple victims of the same scam and provides victims the ability to opt in to contact from law enforcement. We encourage all victims of cryptocurrency exploits to consider filing a report with the FBI's IC3, Europol or the relevant law enforcement agency in their jurisdiction.

How does Chainabuse prevent misuse of the platform?

Chainabuse implements the following controls to prevent and discourage misuse of the platform:

  • Includes the ability for users to upvote, downvote and add comments to reports so that community members can organically filter out low-quality reports
  • Includes a flagging feature so that the community may flag potential spam or false reports; flagged reports are reviewed by TRM's Global Investigations team, which is composed of former agents from the FBI, U.S. Secret Service, IRS-CI and others who specialize in identifying crypto crime, and removed if deemed to be spam reports.

Chainabuse will continue to test community moderation tools and solicit feedback from site users.

How is Chainabuse different from other reporting platforms?

Chainabuse is the first multi-chain tool of its kind, offering users the ability to report scams across eight different blockchains (and counting), compared to existing tools that are designed solely for Bitcoin or Ethereum or social media platforms that simply haven’t been designed to track multiple reports across a single crypto address.

Chainabuse is also unique in its convening power – by garnering the support of leading cryptocurrency businesses, protocols, and foundations and providing law enforcement agencies and other anti-fraud organizations with a clean, consolidated view of user-generated spam reports, Chainabuse enables safety to be scaled in way that the industry has never achieved before now.
